If you are applying for a full time position with a school you will be required to complete an application form.

Follow our tips below to help secure an interview;

What will be in the application pack?

The application pack will normally contain the application form, the job description of the role, and  information about the school.

Follow our tips below to ensure you give yourself the best possible chance of securing an interview;

  • Research the school you are applying to
  • Attend the school before applying or go the open day / show around once you have applied. Schools do make a note of who attends this and you can really make your mark here by asking relevant questions when being shown around. Would you buy a house without seeing it first?
  • Target your application to the individual school
  • Ensure your references are up to date and that your referees have given permission/ are aware of your application
  • Read the Ofsted report for the school
  • Explore the school website and look at the D of E details of the school
  • Check and check again for spelling mistakes and errors, it goes without saying that in the field of education this is a must!
  • Write a strong personal statement; and tailor it for the role.
  • Use the person specification to structure your statement and include all the elements
  • Include local knowledge/ area of the school
  • Give examples not just statements. For example don’t just say ‘I have good classroom management skills’ give examples which show this.
  • On the application form;
  • Education & Qualifications: Summarise key results if there is not very much space, add a separate sheet to list fully
  • Employment History: Enter your job history in reverse chronological order
  • Ask a friend to proof read your application and provide feedback
  • Be positive and end your statement positively
  • Take a copy and keep a copy of your application form
  • Good luck!
